Our girls have arrived

Recommended Posts

Hi folks our green eglu and our two girls arrived today HOORAY. They seemed to have settled in quite well. I'd just like to say the fella who came and fitted up the eglu whos name was George was very polite and very informative he is a credit to the Omlet company. I only have one question though we have a cat what i would like to know is what is the best way to introduce the cat to the chickens so that they don't get frightened and also our cat is afraid of his own shadow.

Regards

Nigel

Our cat is a bit timid as well  She spent ages watching them from the outside of the Omlet netting when we let the hens freerange outside of their run. We were dreading her pouncing on them :? One day she suddenly launched herself through the netting - I must add that up until then the chooks had pretty much ignored her - she did not know what to do and everytime she went up to a hen, the hen came nearer to her. Our poor cat freaked and tried to go elsewhere - near another hen which came to investigat again.

Needless to say the cat has given them a clear berth now, apart from when it was sunny and they were freeranging with their run door open - she decided it was much nicer underneath the Cube in their run. Hasn't tried to attack a chicken once.

Not many hints but the moral of my essay is - the cat is probably likely to be worse off than the chooks - they are pretty good at taking care of themselves especially if the cat is a timid one. Just keep an eye out when they are around each other but otherwise I am sure they will get along fine after the initial shock (for the cat I mean  )

This absolutely cracked me up! I'm sure that there are cats who will "go for it" but by and large the hens are "up for it". As Brucie might say, "Keeeep supervising!"
