lisaroo2
Hi All Have just made some scones for pal that is visiting this afternoon. I'm not a natural cook but am trying. (have got too, hubbie-to-be's sisters are brilliant and I want to take my part in hosting 'family do's') Just have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that they taste nice. Not used this recipe before. they look the part. Will put loads of cream and jam on - just in case!!!

redhotchick
I made scones this week too! Only the second time in my life. I asked my mum for her recipe, but they didn't turn out like my mums They are a nice colour, they are light and tasty, but the wrong shape. They didn't rise much at all. I'll have to eat them all myself and keep practicing! They do taste lovely with jam and cream!
chickencam
I used to make scones every week for my granny who couldn't make them. I used Delia's fruit scone recipe. they are delish with clotted cream and strawberry jam

..lay a little egg for me
Did you put an egg in? Some recipes don't use egg and I think they are the worse for it. The egg makes the scones really yummy, they rise better and would probably keep better if they got the chance!
Jules.
I made scones for the second time ever recently. They were good , but not as good as the ones my mum makes, she puts an egg in hers so I'll borrow the recipe.

The egg makes the scones really yummy, they rise better and would probably keep better if they got the chance! I did put an egg in! one of my mum's tips. I've quizzed her on where I might have gone wrong. Mum's recipe uses baking powder. I added this after rubbing in the butter, mum has suggested adding it before I rub in the butter. I will try that, and also compare ingredients and technique with Delia's. Practice makes perfect!

chickencam
One of the tips with scones is to handle them as litttle as possible. Rub in the butter as lightly as possible and then only just bring the dough together and roll out lightly.
