chocchick
I made dhal (for 4 people*): 4 oz red lentils (yes this amount I have now checked) 2 small onions 3/4 pint vegetable stock 3 cloves garlic 1 tsp tumeric 1tsp paprika 1tsp corriander I added carrots and spinach and served with rice. Actually made 2 portions and put one in freezer for when OH out again as he would hate this! I think it's yummy and easy! Put everything in pan, bring to boil, simmer 30 mins. Dhal should be thick and the lentils should be soft and still retain their shape. Didn't presoak lentils. * Recipe says 4-6 people. I ate half on my own with rice as a main meal. Supposed to be accompaniment rather than main meal really. Edited May 29, 2006 by Guest
chocchick
Naan bread (Hamlyn all new colour cookbook) I like this as I never knew it involved yoghurt place 1.5tsp dried yeast, 1/4 pint warm milk, 1.5tsp caster sugar in a jug, mix well then leave in a warm place until frothy (about 10 mins) Sift 120z plain flour, tsp salt, 0.5tsp baking powder into a bowl Add yeast mixture an 150ml/1/4 pint natural yoghurt, mix well to make a soft dough Turn out onto a floured surface and kneed until smooth and elastic Place in an oiled bowl, cover with cling-film and leave to rise in a warm place for 1.5 hours (I use OHs computer server cupboard (AKA under the stairs) with all the strange whirring fans and flashing lights or sit with it in front of the telly ) Put back on floured surface remove all air bubbles and kneed 2-3 mins divide into 12 balls, then flatten into ovals Fry both sides in a frying pan or griddle that is lightly buttered and very hot.
