So if I want to advertise some chicken poop they (freecycle) will really accept that offer and people will actually want it???

Freecycle will accept it and you will be inundated with replies If you put something like "calling all gardeners or allotment owners..........." It will be clear it is not a joke posting

Just got rid of mine today through Freecycle. Lady with an allotment picked it up and as a bonus told me there are lots of empty plots on her site. Apparently the council don't like to give them out as then they can claim they are not being used and sell the land for housing . Will be on the phone first thing tomorrow

I only have two hens but I have put the poo and bedding in the sack, should I wait until I have more or just advertise a sack?? I pressume you dont sieve out the poos from the bedding

We had 5 sacks . The poo is what is good for the compost so don't sieve it out! I advertised mine as used hemcore and poultry manure from cleaning out chicken run for composting. It was snapped up.

no I meant leave the poo chuck the bedding... phew I can leave it as is then..

I dont want to leave it standing and well ewwwwwww!!! so I guess it's ok to advertise just one sack isn't it??

ok well I;ve put it on, it's waiting approval, but they are a weird lot so I bet they refuse it..

One sack will be fine. In fact the lady that took ours was positively apologetic about it - she kept saying - are you sure you can't use it?

they dont seem to accept much, so I am waiting for the email saying.. "are you kidding me???!!!"

Well it's been accepted, I am just waiting for people to email now either that or it goes to work with hubby as usual..

If you don't get shot of it LL, then I'll take it back with the sink - a friend of mine has an allotment and loves all the chook poo.

ok I dont know... a visitor and I give her an old sink and possibly a sack of chicken poop... what ever happend to cakes and biscuits??

I actually got someone wanting the poop!.. cant quite believe it....

 

wonder if they want a regular supply until I find a composter, because the one at hubbys work is not going to cope

I would ask them. A colleague at work managed to find a regular collector of her horse manure through Freecycle.

I have emailed them back.. although I will want to keep 'some' myself when I find a composter.

 

I've seen them advertised by my local council but I was hoping to get one that no-one wanted will have to try on freecycle when they start allowing wanted adds again.. June 1st apparantly!

yes I think it was Recycle Now that had the leaflet in my local paper, I have it pinned to my notice board. I thought it said it was through the council, but I might have dreamt that part... I will check out their website though, cant hurt

 

edited to say..nope didn't dream it, they are the same ones as on my leaflet from my county council... funny because I rang them the other day and asked if they sold the kitchen caddys as I was fed up with using a plastic tub.. well she said no try the internet... little liar

I got two big compost bins from Recycle now they were £10 each with a £1 off if you order online. They are really good bins with a little door at the bottom so you don't have to tip them up.

cheapest is £17 in my area but next size up is £20.. plus £4 for the caddy.

They seem to have some sort of partnership with the local councils LL. In my area, they offer a free caddy if you spend over a certain amount.

mines £4 for the caddy if you buy a composter. Annoying thing is I had a caddy at old house and left it thinking I would have one in this house... duh!!!!! it's only £4 but I've been using an icecream tub!

Prices seem to vary a lot depending on what deal your council has done. We got a huge composter for £10 and pair of bokashi bins for £25, all delivered free with £1 internet discount. Leeds are pushing composting hard at the moment!

 

Plus I just had my faith in Freecycle restored - I've been in need of a hutch for our guineapigs and have just been offered one to collect tomorrow. Yay!

Have just ordered my FREE compost bin from the local council so should have some good compost soon hopefully, is it ok to put hen poop as well as veg etc in the composter?? It seems such a waste to throw the stuff away, but generally I just water it into the lawn.

Hi Henhuggers,

 

Put as much poo in as you like! It makes excellent fertiliser when composted! If you add bokashi bran to the bin or your chooks diet, that should help accelerate it too!
