Cooks
Both the girls have laid today as usual however the children noticed they were eating something in their run and went to investiage as they were pulling it apart and eating it. It was a cream coloured rubbery piece with slimy stuff inside. Bear in mind by the time I saw it it had been got to by the girls. I think if pulled back in shape it could be egg shaped but I cant be totally sure, because part of it was missing.. Any thoughts??

Egluntyne
Could have been, or maybe it was what is known as a "lash" which happens when they shed the lining to their laying taackle, and lit can look like a cross between a bit of cooked chicken and an eraser. A bit like **this**
Cooks
yeuch!! it wasn't anything like that... thank goodness although that is great to know for future reference. it was more like the material of a surgical glove, but white/very light cream and slimey inside.. wish I'd photo'd it now... wonder if I can retrieve it out of the bin... Ain't Nobody Here
That sounds like it could have been the inner membrane of the egg? We've had a couple like that too.
Christian
*puts knife and fork down* No, thats ok Loopyloo, we get the idea It was probably a softie. Mine lay them every now and then. Nothing to worry about unless it happens all the time.

I thought a softie would come on day they haven't laid though.. bless their little hearts, I am glad whoever laid it wasn't unwell with it... best give them a few extra treats tonight to make sure.. Christian
Glad putting me off lasagne (surgical glove type pasta) made you laugh Loopy! It could have been that when she ovulated, 2 eggs were released and started their journey down the tube. She could probably only cope with 'shelling' one at the time. I'm sure she is ok and will be back to normal in a couple of days.

Hen Watch
well Sugar didn't lay today, which is not like her, so I guess the softie was probably hers yesterday.... Probably....... When my lot lay softies they eat them all. Sometimes I get left a very thin, almost paper like shell which is a dead give away....
