Shelless eggs?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday Amber laid an egg that was soft and broken but today she laid one that ws intact but shelless again. I cut the membrane and i presume its ok to eat ? don't want to waste another!

I'm not overly concerned as the 2 other girls are laying good shelled eggs. Amber didnt lay for 2 days then 2 days of these. I gave them some limestone flour just in case and they have mixe grit though am unsure they eat it. hopefully she will sort herself out soon lol

Hi BarbaraJ

Just carry on as you are with the limestone flour.

One of my girls kept laying soft shelled eggs but it did correct itself after probably a couple of weeks of using the flour.

She is laying lovely hard shelled eggs now and I think they feel better in themselves when they have got the softies out of the way.

Best Wishes!

Oh no! Something new I haven't heard of before that isn't on my list! I thought I virtually had everything covered before the arrival!

How often do you use the limestone flour and when (obviously from this posting it's something to do with soft shells), but isn't it the same as oyster shells ground down??? :?

You can also put crushed egg shells (microwaved or baked enough to sanitise) into their pellets to give them what they need to produce hard-shelled eggs. I think that cuttlefish bits also do the job!

(As I was writing this, I got the picture of Donald O'Connor singing, "May 'em lay, make 'em lay..." instead of "Make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh...")

Crikey, these daft feathery critters do your head in!
