What is stealing eggs from Cube..?

Recommended Posts

Hello. First post from us...........

(how embarrassing, we've been registered since last Sept  )

We have a bit of a puzzle...........

I found a fresh empty egg shell outside the back of the Cube today?!

What on earth managed to squeeze itself and an egg through the ventilation hole on the back?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

I suspect a human child

Could be - mine seem quite incapable of picking up egg (unless there is poo within a metre of it, then they scream for me) and managing the egg port door and not tripping over their own feet. I've lost many an egg that way.

Thank you for all your lovely welcome messages :D

It's a bit daunting posting for the first time;I used to go cross-eyed reading through the instructions!

We don't have littl'uns, only moggies and they keep their distance from 'Chickenland'.

There is a distinct yolky trail up the inside back and over the top of the (grey) door.....I don't think even the wiliest magpie would manage that....

Welcome and sorry but I can't offer any solution either

We have just found our egg thief though - our 9 month old black lab Mille. We don't have a cube so I don't know how that works, but she goes in the eglu run and pops her head into the eglu :x

We were wondering why our egg numbers had plummeted since increasing our chickens to 4

Hope you solve your mystery soon.

Squirrel? I don't have a Cube so I don't know how small the ventilation hole is but squirrels are very skinny under all that fur and they LOVE eggs. They will leave the egg shell wherever they ate it. Does the shell look as if someone or something had bitten into it from one side?

Oooh, that sounds like an interesting idea; we have lots of them rampaging through the garden.

The eggshell was pretty battered by the time we saw it.....
