BeckyBoo
Hi there, just a quick chick question, our Speckle lost a lot of weight sitting on her eggs, so I'd like to give her something extra to help build her up again now she's given up on the other eggs and is out and about again. Question is, if I give her sweetcor, tuna, pasta and the like the chicks will also get it I would imagine, is that OK or should I just stick to putting chick crumb in the feeder and let her just eat that? Christian
When I had a poorly chook, I would pick her up and give her a few extra treats to help her gain weight. Protein like rinsed tuna is good. Growers pellets, pasta etc all work well.
BeckyBoo
Hmmmmm, the thing is is it OK to give these things to chicks cos they WILL ultimately get the treats if I put them in for Speckle. Oh well, they had a run out on some grass today and I suppose they eat what they find there so it's probably OK Mrs B
The Bantam of the Opera
i decided to try and perk my cleo up with some pork and apple sausage. she loved it and one of the chicks had a nibble too but i think she was telling the chick to, she was making a high pitched calling sort of noise. i assumed if she thought it was okay then i did. I'v got 4 now and i think a 5th is on the way.
bronze
Chick crumb will help her and of course won't harm the chicks.
ubereglu
Maybe hang the treats up in the run above the chicks head but so Speckle can get to them.
BeckyBoo
Maybe hang the treats up in the run above the chicks head but so Speckle can get to them. You see? I knew someone would have a really great idea! I might try that tomorrow. I put them all in the run today on the grass, Speckle created merry hell when I took them out first but as soon as she was with them she was fine - I'm so impressed with her!
