Does anyone know where I can get

Recommended Posts

Helloooooo Michelle

I've made mine, just on an A4 piece paper, using a nice large attractive font & lovely colours..FREE RANGE EGGS :) then beneath a short description that they eat organic layers pellets & handfull of organic mixed corn, then beneath the description a photie of the girlies free ranging :) its worked a treat oh & i also laminated too for hard wearing. ( mind you both of us have business people popping in, but you could put it on your gate i have mine in our porch.)

What a great idea!

But I don't think you are legally allowed to have a sign stating that they are free range or organic eggs, unless they have been officially classfied as such.

You are however perfectly within your rights to describe them as "fresh eggs laid by happy, healthy hens that are allowed to roam freely and fed on organic layers pellets and mixed corn".

I hope I haven't come across as a kill joy, I'm just trying to give a bit of friendly, helpful advice to save you possible legal trouble in the future...

Hello KillJoy, Offspring & Eglutine :D absolutely not a killjoy I'm only joking. Thank you i had no idea, i just assumed as they were free ranging around a , well what i would call a large garden & little woodland; from 10am till 8pm they would be free range. However, I will use your wording, our sign is inside our porch, its only our visitors that see it. Although i will pretend i haven't read this, as i wont do it immediately as my printer hasn't much coloured ink & i need it for other work :)

I was aware I couldnt write organic, hence the description of fed on Organic pellets.

Bit off topic but . .Oddly enough if the law can be so strict with legaslation, titles what you can say & cant say .. then wouldnt you think its the law that Hugh whateevershinamessthough should be tryng to change, as opposed to trying to pursuade big stores like Tesco to give more space to chickens etc. Wonder why he doesnt campaign to get the law changed, then they'd be breaking the law!

Good point from Offspring.

Also...I would be worried about inviting strangers onto my property.....but I am twitchy about that at the best of times.

Yes, I was worried about that too, I decided I would only have the sign out if I am home, and have the eggs in a big cool box that I have with an honesty box on the doorstep, therefore I will not have to actually (I hope) open the door to strangers.

I had seen the sign on ebay, but I'm not sure I like it and I would still need something to attach it with, as we have no wall etc outside the house :? I had not considered making my own, my boss has a laminator so would be easy enough to do one, except I would still have the how to attach problem.

I have seen a really nice one (wooden) on like a swing, but I can't find it now :? There was also a black board type bit underneath the sign to write your own bit. No idea what I was looking at at the time, so no idea where to look now  .

Thanks everyone, I had not even considered if I was allowed to put a sign up - they spoil it for everyone  .

If you've got a bit of spare wood - even the back of a clip frame you could buy some blackboard paint (about £2.50 from wilkos). You get get some of those velcro pads that have a sticky baking to them to attatch it to things...or an old roof slate written on in chalk or white emultion...

What a great idea, I will be popping to Wilco, I really love this cheap easy idea! Now why did I not think of that!

I do also like the ones from the ebay company, although now the above idea has been said, I will go for the cheap option!

Thanks so much
