The Midland Hotel, Morecambe

Recommended Posts

to anyone who read my review of the service at the above hotel, I'd just like to let you know that DH sent an e-mail to the manager of the hotel explaining our experience on the day and he has offered us a complimentary night's stay with dinner as his guests!

The way he handled the complaint is exemplary and we hope our next visit will be memorable for the right reasons this time!

I'll let you know what our stay was like when we've been again, but I just wanted to let you know how courteously and professionally our complaint was handled, just in case you'd been put off visiting by my previous comments, which while true, aren't the whole story.

it was the combination of having travelled so far (so we were very hungry and thirsty!) and then being forgotten about, when we were quite pressed for time anyway! (we had to get back to see dad) and with it being my birthday, it just all added up to a big let down on the day. 2 hours to be served and eat 1 course is a bit excessive! But it's been more then recompensed by his kind offer, so fingers x'd we have a better time next time

Thanks for posting that Poet, I'd missed your account of the day as well :? It does look beautiful doesn't it? I can't wait to go back and see it. Shame about your day, but as you say, your complaint dealt with very well! 8)

I think they have done amazing things with the prom at Morecambe. We lived there in the early nineties and, although it was a nice place to live, it really was dreary and sad. It looks lovely now and even has some half decent sand!

I didn't want to complain to be honest, it was Ian's idea and it seems to have paid off!

I'll let you know what our stay is like after we've been. I'm looking forward to going back as Morecambe is very nice.

Nice to see it finished, I went on a field trip about 2 years ago to Morecambe and they were half way through renovating!

A good moan is usually worthwhile, and makes you feel better. I complained to Virgin Trains the other week about having to stand up for a 2 and a half hour journey from Bristol to Preston, even though I had pre booked seats. I got a £15 travel ticket in return 8)

the same thing happened to me on a virgin train but I sneaked into first class and sat in a spare seat there and was ready for a row if they tried to shift me, but they didn't!

 Glad that one worked for you! I tried that once

I (sadly) use Virgin trains a lot when travelling to and from university.

The Bristol - Preston line is always busy I find (as they never seem to put enough carriages on) and you're lucky if the seats you reserved haven't been 'cancelled' or anything!

I couldn't find a seat so decided to sit in first class...I was only to be sat there 20minutes as I was changing at Stafford, but the train manager was asking me to pay the full 1st class fare Preston-Bristol (after already paying £50 for a ticket anyway). I refused to pay as 1st class was empty and I was not going to be standing up with about 1million bags!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, the train manager took my ticket off me, so I couldn't even travel to Bristol. Being stuck in Stafford on a Sunday evening with no money isn't the best feeling, but thankfully customer service was still open who were sympathetic and replaced my ticket free of charge.

Wrote to them, but they replied saying that they will 'reply soon'..

still waiting! :x

This is making the post completely off topic but I'm sure Conditions of Carriage state that if you have a pre-booked seat, they are meant to give you one, so you should be able to sit in 1st class without paying extra if your seat has been taken. GNER certainly have always upheld this or given a full refund. Not sure if this holds when trains have been cancelled/merged together though.

i'd have lied and said i was pregnant and had to sit down, or something similar! Actually I have a bad heart so I could use that one!

never hand over your ticket! They're not going to manhandle someone pregnant or with a bad ticker either so stay put in your seat! I doubt they'd even be allowed to manhandle you!

stay in your seat, don't give them your ticket and tell them you're preggers next time!

I'm really bad at lying though!

Well he asked me if he could 'look at my ticket' and he never gave it me back - so I had no choice really!

you'll know next time, just hold it up for him to see but don't hand it over. I don't like lying but I make an exception for creeps like him! Fancy leaving a young girl, on her own, stranded with no money! Why I oughta!

Just a word of caution.

I once observed a situation where someone refused to pay for an upgrade and to cut a long story short, they were escorted from the train at the next station by the transport police as they had turned abusive.

Whether or not you are entitled to a free upgrade will depend entirely on the terms and conditions under which your ticket was sold, I'm afraid.

I was trying to reason with him, but he was having none of it :x

But most trains do, and should open up first class when the train is packed out. If you pay for and reserve a seat I don't see why you should stand when it is their fault!
