Squish
....are STILL not laying i think i may have unable chickens ! Ive had them for over 5 weeks now and their combs are slowly getting redder, but no signs of eggs, crouching etc. According to my dad if they don't lay by two months they're becoming a corma ...I don't think so! Someone said about them laying around the garden but somehow i don't think thats whats happening. EDIT: Just gone to put the chicks to bed and i found a beautiful brown speckled egg!! Ive never seem my family quite so exited! Not quite sure who's it is, as Ginger has been crouching for about a week but i heard a load of clucking earlier and poked my head out of the window and could only see Ginger so it may have been Babs . Just fried it and shared it around the family, the grandparents have even been rung to inform them Such clever little cooks Edited June 22, 2008 by Guest
Egluntyne
Just give them a little more time. If the combs are reddening, they are certainly showing signs of maturing. I had my initial girls for 6 weeks before the first egg appeared.

Squish
One of my original girls waited 3 months THREE?! Ohh they will definitely be a curry by then . I just dont want to buy any more eggs from the supermarket, i suppose the only thing i can do is wait...as the eggy pep talks before bedtime have not been doing the trick! Ain't Nobody Here
You think that's bad . I had to wait 11 weeks for 2 of mine to lay. The other one laid 10 tiny eggs a few weeks after she arrived, then waited 18 weeks to really get going . Not that I'm trying to worry you or anything . Christian
I think she was much younger than the other two Squish. She had no comb for the first 2 months.
Squish
Looks like i might still be in for a bit of a wait then! Ill be sure to inform you once they do lay...hopefully it will be before the 11th odd week of having them .
munchkin
Hi squish Try not to panic, we've had our chucks since 12/4/08 and Barbara laid her 1st egg this week. It was a bit of a wait but well worth it. Babs is now catching up with Margot in terms of size and weight but my husband seems to think that Margot has got a better set of drumsticks

Gallina
That's good news. It means your hens were on the young side when you got them. That is good news too: I find that the friendliest hens are those I had when they were still babies.
