BeckyBoo
Well done all you savers, and go for it Chooken! Saving for stuff seems to be so out of fashion and I have to admit I'm terrible for, if I want it, I try to find some way of getting it NOW! I was saving for an Eglu to buy for OH for Fathers Day last year, then great Uncle left me some money - to spend before I die, just like Little Chickadee, so I upgraded and bought him the cube I'm currently "renting" an old yellow Eglu which I'm afraid I'm becoming rather attatched to, will be hard to let it go, might have to do some saving so I've got something to bargain with when the time comes in October! Yolky
The huaband gave me £60 last night so I could add the netting onto the order for free ranging
Mutrix Farmers
I didn't consciously save, but we made the decision 2 years before we bought one that we would have one, so the money had been put aside. Hope you get all the money you need really soon Yolky
Yolky
I have just had a final few things sold and I have enough money to buy the eglu, chickens, feed, omlet netting, bokashi bran, food ball and £10 left over which will pay for some hemcore and some mixed grit. MedusA
That's brilliant, Yolky. You won't regret it. I now have 2 eglus in my walk-in run (it started with one eglu last year, so be warned)! I didn't save up as such, but I had been wanting chickens for some time and had been frugal in preparation, so I had savings in general which I tapped into. AMO
I used the last of my redundancy money to buy my Eglu. I then saved my money from the hen parties and working at shows for Omlet to save up for my Cube.

Yolky
Do you get a 'wage' from the hen parties or do you get the £10 that each person pays?
stoobie
I had been saving up for ages for nothing in particular then when it came round to doing the garden this year I figured I had always wanted chickens so I would buy an eglu. It took me a while to justify the cost as I thought they were quite pricey, but when I had a look around at other wooden coops they were roughly the same price but not nearly as unusual. I still have savings left as well - who knows what will be bought next....

AMO
Do you get a 'wage' from the hen parties or do you get the £10 that each person pays? Yes you do get a wage plus a commission for any sales following a hen party
Yolky
Thanks AMO. Might be something to think about when I am more experienced. There seem to be no parties in my area and also there are no 'visit eglu/cubes' in my area either.

I think they ask that you have had your hens for at least 6 months - they are great fun to do and not like proper work at all! Plus you get to talk chicken to a captive audience
Yolky
That sounds like fun to me, I have been trying to talk chicken to lots of people but I have started to see them switch off already, they aren't even here yet lol.
