Declutter tips for messy girl's bedroom wanted...

Recommended Posts

We got our (nearly) 9yr old's bedroom clear this weekend by using the good cop bad cop routine. I was the good cop 8) Basically Daddy was going to throw away everything left on the floor/ surfaces at 7pm on sunday and I was geeing her on and sitting with her for a bit to try and remind her to not just sit and read and that he really did mean it.

She said afterwards that it had felt like she had been carrying a yoke with full buckets around with her, and that now she had actually tidied the room, she felt all light and floaty!!! (We had been asking nicely for weeks)

Don't get me started on books! Why do my boys have to completely empty the bookcase to find one book? I've lost count of the number of times I've neatly stacked all the books back on their shelves! I only did it again last week and now they are all in a heap on the floor with not one on the shelf  I suppose looking on the bright side, it does mean that their books are well used

And the teenager is a great one with washing - does he really think I won't notice if a clean, ironed and folded T shirt reappears in the laundry basket, completely unworn :roll:

My 9 yr old is the worst, we have done several major sort outs of her room over the last couple of years. The most recent was when we decorated it a couple of months ago. It has been a bit better but only with constant nagging..

She is the nearest to the washing basket which is a big Lloyd loom trunk so very easy to chuck stuff into. She does the unforgivable of putting washed clothes which have yet to be put away into the basket along with clothes that have fallen off hangers in the wardrobe. I am always battling the washing and ironing in this house so I don't need the clean stuff to come round again

On one occasion in every drawer, cupboard, box, bag etc there was a play person it became a running joke. She loves craft things and her room is always covered in bits of paper pencil shavings beads feathers fluff wool you name it.

My 12 yr old son is also awful, we decorated his room just before we did YD's and he swore that he would look after it. HA not a chance :x The worst thing with him is dirty clothes he shoves his socks and pants under the bed and leaves the rest lying around I even gave him his own pop up washing basket to no avail. I have tried not washing anything for him but he just wears dirty socks and goes commando which I can't do with

ED was pretty bad until last year when she asked for a new triple wardrobe with mirrors and dressing area for her birthday. Since then her room has been passable and she tidys it on a Friday night, and gives it a good going over when friends come over.

I was terrible as a child so genetically it is my fault. OH is very tidy and organised by nature, although I have loosened him up over the years
