mayflower
When I woke up the hens today, I noticed that Alice is very 'still' lethargic. Every couple of minutes she is closing her eyes while she is stood up, as if she has had a sleepless night. Also, her feathers are ruffled. Her vent looks clean though. I Have made up a dish of wet warm layers mash laced with garlic, poultry spice and lifeguard. Alice is eating it but not so eagerly as the others. Oh dear! Alice is the smallest of the five hens. The others are twice the size they were when rescued. Hopefully, she is just having an off day and will recover. I would hate to lose her. Alice was the hen with the 'killer' instinct, and two other hens nearly died because of her. Since that awful time, she has become a really sweet natured hen and time has emotionally healed her experience in the cages. So I will be keeping a close eye on her today. Please send out positive thoughts for Alice. xxx
Snowy
Poor little thing, Ihope she is OK Is it worth trying to get some poultry tonic into her, see if that helps?
abwsco
Mayflower, have you wormed them at all. Could well be worth dosing them all with Flubenvet. Also, have you tried giving her some probiotic natural yoghurt. Hope she's OK.
mayflower
The lifeguard is the same as poultry tonic, and together with the poultry spice should give her a boost......hopefully. Just checked on her now, and she is still eating, so that's a good sign. Thank goodness it is a sunny day, unlike yesterday...so wet. I'm sure the sun does chooks good. mayflower
I have some flubenvet, but not used it yet. The yogurt sounds a good idea. Yes, good idea to wormthem. Thanks.,

Thanks., One of mine must have been riddled with worms when we got her She was however always the biggest of the girls and only ever seemed to eat and drink. Anyway, she started going downhill slowly and all our checks showed she was clear of everything. Gave her Flubenvet and within 3 days she was like a new chicken doing all the normal chickeny things. Keep us posted on her please.
Egluntyne
Poor girl, although it is a good sign that she is eating and drinking. I would worm her and check her for lice and mites too, as they can sap their strength. Could she be working up to laying a soft egg?

mayflower
Hi thanks for all your concern. Alice seems to be fine now. In the afternoon she started to pick up and is fine this evening. Maybe it was something to do wiith all the rain yesterday and the high winds last night. Anyway, all seems to be well. But of course, I will continue to closely observe her.
