AJuff
I have finally finished report writing for another year!!!!!! My reward is a new purple eglu which I've just ordered. I only have to wait until July 1st!!!! I just can't bring myself to order a cube as I don't like the way they look so to have more hens I need another beautifully shaped eglu. Now I'll have purple and green!!! Integration will be much easier as I can put the new eglu in the walk in run so they will be altogether but apart. Three or four weeks getting used to each other then altogether!! Only question now is how many new hens and what type? We have room for 3- 4 more. There are only goldlines and Ambers available here in the North. I'd love a speckeldy, sussex, welsummer or maran.

chelsea
congrats on the news! We have a maran - she's our "low maintenence chook" - doesnt like fuss, eats only the stuff that's good for her, doesnt like cuddles and has never been ill (touches wood), never broody,...she's rewarded us with an egg nearly every day since we brought her home. (and she was the cheapest of all our hens! ) The sussex are also lovely.
mrs chook
Ooooh! As you can see from my sig I SOOOOOOOOOOO wanna get a purple one, pref eglu as well i think. The reasons for my note are - a) to congratulate you (albeit-with a hint of envy) and b) To ask where abouts you are "up north"? I am in North Yorkshire and have two gingernut girlies so far with a desperate urge to get more - Glencroft poultry near Catterick (where I got mine) seem to have a choice online. They have a hybrid type which looks maran-esque, maybe worth you checking out if not too many miles away????? Sorry can't remember the name hence the pathetic description Good luck in your chook choices!!!! xx
AJuff
Glencroft pultry is near my brother's house. I bought five of my hens from him in the past. At present they are sold out 3 months in advance. They only have a few Ambers for sale at present. He thinks they will have gone before the new eglu arrives! I'm in Hexham, Northumberland. There are no hens for sale at all at my local poultry farm. Jedburgh has Goldlines only . . . and I wanted a mixture, a choice!! Anyway I found a place in Penrtih that sold Welsummers but they were £70 for 4. Reasonable but not to OH. FInally I found a Meadowsweet agent in County Durham nr Dalton Park outlet shops who had a choice of Goldlines, Ambers and Sussex at £10.50. So I've ordered two Sussex and two Ambers to be collected on Sat 5th July. I can't wait. Kids are thinking up names already and we haven't seen them yet.
