Lapinou
What do I need to fence off from the chickens? Is it just young shoots? Can I leave areas with established plants? The fencing's not obtrusive, but it is making our usable area quite small and I'd like it in as few places as possible! Thanks
Lapinou
Ignore me - I've found the answer with some careful archive searching. Netting will be staying up!
craftyhunnypie
I've tried allsorts - they took a liking to a plant I bought at weekend & stripped one stem bare! They took a liking to my peas yesterday. So they are all stood on top of the table at the moment. Hubby is making a plant stand at the weekend. Mind you I catch Rolo trying to jump up to reach the lettuce. Hanging baskets & window boxes are the only answer or build frames from wood & netting. dancing cloud
My veg bed is netted off as my little monsters can scoff a lettuce in micro-seconds, but last night the little wotsits decided to eat everything in my two tubs Geraniums and Sweet Williams gone! Everything eaten to soil level! They did, of course, have the whole garden to pick from (except the lettuces) but why walk all the way there when you can stop off at the snack bar on the patio? Anyone for chicken wings?

Helen&Lee
I would be inclined not to net the established stuff, vegetables and annuals are more risky. None of my garden is netted yet full of plants and they don't bother them too much - I don't think I've lost a plant to chooks for months.
