Phuzz -- 1st egg already?

Recommended Posts

Oh my gosh, everyone -- Phuzz has gone back in the cube and has been sitting in the egg box for the past 20 mins! Only just her home a few hours ago...

Could she already be laying? She's 23 weeks, and at least one of the chickens in the Cream Legbar barn had already laid, so.... wow... the anticipation is killing me

Well, good news and, well... odd news. Phuzz indeed did lay! Wonderful girl. :D

But it was beige, not blue or green. I thought Cream Legbars only laid blue or green -- have it gotten another kind of bird? The woman at Golden Valley did say she had a barn of other Legbars that laid white eggs, but that the one I was picking out (and paying for) was a blue egg layer. I'm a wee bit sad :(

Wow that was quick! thought I did well on day 2 but same day is pretty amazing!

Not sure about the blue issues though.. did think there was an 80% chance of blue/green and the rest were pastel beige?? someone else will know far more I'm sure!

Is she definitely a Cream Legbar?

Well, I was assured she was. And she was chosen from a barn that was housing only the Cream Legbars -- half of which were the more beige-coloured ones shown in those images, but the other half were all reddish like Phuzz.

I have just emailed Golden Valley to ask about it, though. Don't want to sound mercenary or anything, but the blue-egg layers are more expensive, and we did pay for one. We won't be giving Phuzz back, of course, but it would be nice to clear it up.

I wasn't expecting to even get a Legbar today, of whatever colour egg -- it's just having had my expectations built up only to have them thwarted so soon is a bit sad, is all. I am sure to get over it quickly, as she is a completely lovely bird!

As soon as I saw your picture I thought she looked more like a legbar hybrid to me - a skyline. Definitely not a pure breed legbar. Sorry :( The skylines are still usually dearer than other hybrids - around the £20 mark. I would have thought a purebreed legbar would be dearer.

Well, she cost me £23. And I have the woman's hand-written note here that says "Cream Legbar, 23 weeks, blue egg" -- so she sold it to me as such in good faith. She seemed lovely and Golden Valley's reputation preceded them as being very decent folk, so I am sure she really did believe that is what she was selling me.

I'll just wait to hear an answer to my email to see what they say...

Oh dear. I must admit, when I saw her picture, I thought "She's very ginger for a legbar".

You know, I said the same thing -- out loud, and both women kept assuring me that she was a Legbar. Her markings aren't showing up in any of the photos -- they are similar markings to the more beige-y of her sisters in the same barn. The women did say they had other Legbars that were white egg layers, if I wanted those -- the barn for those was on the other side of the compound, and I didn't go ver to see them, so I don't know if half of them were gingery as well (she's less ginger-looking in person than she photographs, though). I'm wondering now if somehow one or more of the other Legbars got mixed in with the blue layers, for there definitely were blue eggs in the barn from which I took her.

I'm not terribly disappointed, just a wee bit -- but if I did overpay, it'd be nice to get a bit of a refund. But I definitely won't be taking her back -- I already love her to bits.

She does look like our skyline. She laid her first egg this week and it was beige BUT the next one was green  see what happens tomorrow.

Oh, right. I had no idea that could happen. Thanks! Now I've got a whole new reason to get excited for tomorrow :D

Now, Phuzz laid the egg early evening, between 5 & 5:30pm -- should I expect her to lay that late for a while? or was that a one off because of all the travelling and changes? I just thought all chickens laid in the morning, before noon... no idea where I got that notion, though.

I posted a reply re Phuzz on your other post, so apologies for repeating myself here. I'm afraid that Phuzz looks very different to my Cream Legbar, who is a lighter colour and has a top-knot of feathers on her head - and lays blue eggs.

Still waiting with baited breath to see if/what Phuzz lays today.

But I just thought I should take a moment to crow about this first lovley one -- no matter what colour it is!
