Crazy Pump Action Reaction Chickens

Recommended Posts

I thought that title might get some attention. Nothing to do with shot guns, I might add at this point! :D

Recently, my father bought me a pump action weed sprayer, one of those big 5 litre ones. I think it was a subtle hint to get my weeds under control. Anyway, it was gratefully received and I have used it a few times on the weeds on our drive.

However, this weekend I had it for the first time in the back garden, where the chickens are. As usual, they were as near to me as they could get, to see what was going on, whether there was any food going, that kind of thing. I had just filled the weed sprayer and started pumping it to get some pressure going to use the spray, when Susannah, one of our chickens, went nuts.

She is usually very calm, except when grapes are on offer, and was not at all bothered by the pump itself, we think it was the noise or the action of pumping that she REALLY didn't like. See for yourself on my blog.

(I can't work out how to get video on the forum and it needs video to have the full effect!).

It was a full display, wings out, 'BOK BOK BOK'ing at the top of her voice. And the other chicken, Trinny, was not at all bothered; didn't have the slightest reaction. I wonder what this sound (I think it was the sound that bothered her) represents in her brain?

Does anyone have any ideas :?:
