Hi all,

 

I'm looking for an easy way to cook gooseberries that can be eaten either hot or cold.....does anyone have a recipe for gooseberry and ginger crumble or something similar please?

 

My parents are caravanning nearby and brought us a punnet yesterday. I would like to cook them and take them with us when we go to see them at their caravan in a day or two. Hence needs to be something that doesn't have to be reheated (we can always have packet/tinned custard with it!).

I've just made a whole carrier bag full of gooseberries into gooseberry fool. Boil the goosies up with a tiny bit of water and some sugar to taste, then liquidise with some yummy homemade custard and refrigerate to set it.

My mother uses cream, but I'm not keen on it. Custard is a fave for me though.

Mmm, might give this a go as it sounds lovely although OH not too keen on cold custardy type desserts......

I've got a lovely family recipe for a veggie Italian pasta sauce that contains celery, even Rosie likes it and she's not keen on celery either.

How do you make your custard please Claret? I am a custard not a cream girl myself

There's a recipe not too far down this page of the All Things Nice Section Liz - posted by Martin if I remember correctly - that's the same recipe as I use.

 

Failing that (and if I'm lazy) the M&S luxury custard (free range eggs of course) is brilliant.

i think I found the right recipe. 1pt milk, 4 egg yolks 30g sugar 2tsp cornflour??

 

How long will the fool keep? You said that you had a carrier bag full of gooseberries that must be a lot of fool

That's it! I made up 4 plastic containers of it and have frozen two. It doesn't last long in this house!
