Cinnamon
This is weird I grew some pots last year, which did really well. This year the patch they were in has been put over to Spinach, but to my suprise 2 potato plants popped up - I guess a couple of tiny ones must have been left in the ground & sprouted. I left them to it,& they have grown & grown, flowered & generally done all the things a potato plant should. Until today. They seem to have tomatoes growing from them Its bizarre, but there are perfect green tomatoes growing from my potato plants!
Lesley
I think they are just the fruits which follow after the flowers if you leave them Sarah. They are poisonous, so don't treat them like tomatoes

Snowy
Aren't potatoes and tomatoes distantly related? Do post a picture Sarah!
Lesley
They are related Snowy....... Yes, it was mentioned somewhere the other day........ .......and I wouldn't have thought they were that unusual - we had loads last year and I had to keep reminding Lauren and Jake that they weren't tomatoes
Milly
There was an article in the most recent Gardening Which - last year they did a trial of a new plant which grows potatoes and tomatoes on the same plant. Unfortunately they said that due to the very wet weather last year they all went down with blight, so they advised against them. It looks like they might have the same blight problem this year - it just seems to keep on raining Milly
Cinnamon
They are rleated, & also to the Deadly Nightshade plant, which is why potato flowers look so like nightshade flowers. The potato tomstoes are full on Nightshade poison
