chelsea
never actually counted, but it does surprise you how much poo can come out such a small animal!! We never have any problems though, we hose down our decking and grass regularly and I use a combination of citronella oil and eucalyptus oil to help with flies - and we dont have a fly problem at all. I actually didnt have one before I started using the oils but they smell nice.

Sandychick
I'm constantly amazed at the amount of poo! It's great for the compost heap though.

Janty
I read somewhere that they do an average of 50 poos a day.
redfrock
I heard it was up to 20 times a day! Jo it has to be more than that judging by the numbers they leave behind after a free-ranging session!
Abbey Road Girl
If it's true, and judging from my experience it is, they do 70% of their poos at night. I have had few noticable poos from my four in the run or outside of it. On the other hand, there are plenty of nicely formed poos that fall between the roosting bars. SLK69
Humff - Can someone tell my beloved chooks that they are supposed to do 70% of the pooping at night into the poop trays! Thet are poop-tastic machines. (just as well I get a lot of requests for chicken fertilizer )
Gallina
This is another good reason for locking the Eglu/Cube door at night: you catch their early-morning poos in the poo tray, which is so easy to empty in the compost heap. About 20 a day sounds right to me. That means with 8 hens I have 160 poos a day -- wow!
