I went into borders yesterday on my lunch and they only had two different books and they seemed to be completely rubbish. (one was about keeping meat birds on farms) There are lots on the Omlet website, but its hard to know which one would be best. I've never kept chickens before, so I'm looking for something with the basics included. Also haven't picked any chickens yet, so I'd like to read up about different breeds. I got some others from the library so I could check them out before I bought them. Choosing and Keeping Chickens by Chris Graham is good. So is Hens in the Garden Eggs in the Kitchen. I find this forum amazing, I've learnt more from here than any book. There are a few other sites that have good info too. TPFringe Posted July 16, 2008 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I'm brand new to chickens too (in fact I don't even have any yet - I'm still in the 'preparation stage'). I got 'Starting with Chickens' by Katie Thear a couple days ago - it's quite informative too - lots on purebreeds. I found that 'Keeping Pet Chickens' was a great book - easy to read and lots of nice pics but the former did have a little more detail - but not as many nice colourful pics. Hope this helps. ruth1 Posted July 16, 2008 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I got the Complete encyclopedia of chickens its great and lots of pictures and info on different breeds Also then got Keeping chickens by Virginia somebody which was good to, and Im waiting on choosing and keeping chickens ( Im a bookworm really) Someone gave me the big book of garden hens but i have to say it was disappointing. I'm the same though, I'm a bookworm, I just loving getting my nose into a book. It's a shame I can't put all the advice on this forum in a book.
