daisymay
Hi Omleteers! I've noticed that one of my crested girls has been losing feathers around the top of her tail. While I was cleaning them out this morning I spotted the other crested girl peck some feathers off her and then eat them as if they were the most the delicious food ever. I read somewhere that feather eating means lack of protein??? Is this right. They get a what I think is a good balanced diet of layers pellets, bokshoi bran, garlic powder, poultry spice, and grit. They also get treats at the end of each day normally comprising marmite sandwiches/toast, cabbage or something green, plus anything else left over from the day e.g.pasta, cereals etc etc. They are kept in a large fenced area (approx 30ft x 20ft) but unfortunately in the 3 months since I've had them the grass has all gone. I give them dandelions and goose grass when i find them as well. I am going away for a few days but my husband will be looking after them when he's back and fore from work, so they will be given treats and still be free ranging in the pen all day. What can I do??? Have just been out and thrown in a handful of meal worms in case protein is the problem...just don't want poor rosy to end up with a bald bum... ps they also get mixed corn almost daily. I am going to give them some tuna tonight....good idea??
Egluntyne
I'd be inclined to spray the pecked hen with some anti peck spray and see how you go. Giving extra protein is also a good idea. Tuna, scrambled egg, organic cat food, chick crumbs are all good sources.
