wombatally
The other day I noticed that Beefy, my speckledy, had lost a few feathers on one side of her neck (it didn't look possible that she took them out herself). Today I have noticed that she is bald underneath and her egg laying has become sporadic (she's usually one a day). Could she be moulting?! She's not being picked on and is top dog anyway. I know that if they go broody they sometimes loses feathers but she's not hogging the nest box. I've checked for mites and can't see anything, and their house gets a proper dusting of powder as do the chooks. Other than that she's acting batty and aloof - which is quite normal for her! Any ideas?!
Egluntyne
It does sound like a mini moult. Neck feathers are often the first to go.
