Happymama
I grow salad stuff in an old hot water copper, it's been sliced down it's length but the garage fell on the other half so I've only got one now, but it keeps the slugs off no end You can use copper strips, eggshells, grit, or let your hens eat the small brown ones. My hens ignore the big black ones. The big black ones eat rotten stuff. Good slugs Smaller brown ones eat fresh stuff. Bad slugs. Beer traps are a bit too indiscriminate. You'd be better off using upturned grapefruit halves, put it down after breakfast, and by next morning it'll be full of slugs. Then you can do as you wish with the contents. Black slugs appreciate being put back into a pile of leaf mould.
