Guy
Hi all, I've had my 3 chickens (Sage, Onion and Paxo) a few months now, and loving them. They strut around my garden and get on fine with my Maine Coon (Rufus) and Golden Retriever (Bucky). They have even been known to jump on top of a sleeping Bucky rather than walk around him. My house has large patio doors that open onto the garden, and I like to leave them open for Bucky and Rufus to wander in and out - unfortunately Onion seems to like coming inside also. Yesterday I went out for the day and got back to see a chicken in the lounge - she'd obviously snuck in and got trapped whilst my back was turned! I went upstairs and she had made it all the way up and laid an egg on the bottom of my bed between some cushions! Today she has been desperate to come inside again, dashing in whenever the door is open and pecking at the windows other times, she even tried investigating the cat flap. It was getting late in the day for her to be laying, so I tried shutting her in the eglu for a bit but nothing. I let her out for a bit but she was just being annoying again trying to come in, so I shut her in the eglu again for a good hour, and still nothing. I then decided to give up and let her have a little wander inside - she hopped half way up the stairs, nestled down for 5 minutes and then popped out an egg! So - sorry if it's been asked before, but what's the strangest place your chicken has laid an egg? Can you beat my breakfast in bed!?! Also - does anyone have any tips on how to break her of this? I fear it is already becoming a habit Cheers, Guy
MedusA
Sorry I have nothing sensible to suggest. I have never had this problem. Onion obviously likes to live in the lap of luxury. She must have looked really cute laying her egg in 5-star comfort.

Faye&Ant
Ha ha thats a cute story. I dont know why they want to lay in weird places when the nest boxes are so clean and comfortable! One of mine laid her first egg on the dining room chair (albeit I was worried she was acting strange), she then climbed into the bookcase and laid there (Ihave a pic) and then more recently one of the others laid in the tomato plant that is sitting in a hanging basket haf way up the fence Anyone else have some funny stories? Pinkybijou
I don't always get chance to read what's going on here, but I'm so glad I did today. Your tale of Onion's exploits has had me chuckling for ages! She sounds absolutely adorable, bless her. She must have found a really nice comfy spot and just held onto her egg until she could get back on your bed again - you've gotta admire her! Ain't Nobody Here
Aww, bless her . How sweet . Can't beat that at all, we've only had eggs in the run, on the bars and in the nestbox . (Oh and a few in a flowerbed when Molly was first broody .)

jools+6
thank god it was just an egg she left in the bed !!!!! i know what mine are like there would have been a trail of poo .......
Guy
Well there were a few poohs downstairs, but fortunately she couldn't keep eating throughout the day (being inside) and so there wasn't too much! All seems peaceful so far today - the doors are wide open (lovely sunny day here) but I guess it's a bit early for her to be thinking of laying again. My main worry is just how long she can keep an egg in, and will it do her any harm? I have some pictures of her having just laid the egg on the stairs - will try and work out how to resize and post it. So much for them wanting to go somewhere quiet and dark!
