Hen Time
If I can persuade my hubby to not worry about the poo and enjoy it, I will change my order from a cube to an eglu ... do you still suggest more than 2 hens? They will free range for a limited time during week days.
MedusA
If you are getting an eglu but still want 3 hens, I would recommend getting the converter (1 metre extension) so you have 1 metre of run per hen. That seems to be the minimum recommended runspace. The standard run is really only suitable for 2 hens. Keep us posted!
Hen Time
Thanks for the prompt advice ... will two hens be quite happy together then? I think we will buy the extension anyway
Yolky
I have an eglu with three hens. For the first 2 weeks I just had a standard run as I was waiting for a friend to pass on her old converter and extention. I felt that the standard run was not big enough for three hens, they were ok but I felt that if that was it permenently then they could end up being not nice to eachother because of lack of space. If your husband is worried about the smell you need to get things ready before the eglu arrives. I would totally recommend putting the run on slabs and using hemcore/auboise in the run and adding garlic and bokashi to their layers feed. This really stops smells and also the auboise/hemcore makes it very easy to clean the run and poo pick. How against it is he? Would it be worth putting delivery off for a couple more weeks to give him time. Also are you prepared to do all the poo stuff?
