Pink and Black Puddings/Cakes?

Recommended Posts

My niece is 18 next week, and is having a party for family and a few friends. It's pink and black themed. (Think Emo. Think Disney Snow White. Think several piercings, shaved-off eyebrows and black, black hair!)

Eldest sister and I have offered to make dessert - it has to be 'finger food' size, and, er, pink and black. So far, we're thinking Nigella chocolate brownies in 1" squares (ok, not really black but dark!), mini cup cakes with pink icing, raspberry mini-muffins, and miniature cheesecakes with something red on top.

Just wondered if Omleteers have any ideas for pink/black food, or have done anything similar? I can see the red food colouring is going to get some heavy usage!

I make little fairy cakes with fruit icing on them. I use mashed raspberry, mashed strawberry and a little mashed blueberry mixed with a little raspberry as it looks horrible on its own - no pink colouring needed.

Be careful not to use too much fruit to icing sugar or else it will be too runny!

ooh thanks for the ideas, especially the icing one Lesley - I was wondering how to incorporate fruit into this. I'm not a big fan of food colouring, but since she and her friends seem to live on Macdonalds and Pepsi, I don't suppose it will affect them!

the liquorice allsorts are a great idea, hadn't thought of that - you can get bags of just those blue and pink ones, can't you. Oh dear, all those blue ones left over - what shall I do with them?

And I love the idea of marble cake. Her elder sister (22) has taken control of the decorations, and apparently spent a small fortune (bankrolled by their mum, of course) on napkins etc. I'll post some pictures of the final display!
