New chooks for the weekend! Ex-batts!

Recommended Posts

Hiya

Well as some of my girls may be boys (See other topic - My hen sounds like a cockerel!) I have had a quick look round for some other hens in case they do not come home tonight from breeder!

I have found some ex-batts who were freed only 2 months ago but now owner is downscaling birds from flock of 20 to just 5 that she can have in garden rather than fields! They are quite near to me and will be going for a look tomorrow but I am all eggcited now as these ones lay eggs! And after 3/4 months of chicken husbandry I have never had a fresh egg!

Also breeder has a white sussex who has just had chicks and will be ready to lay again soon and he said he will give us her if current hens are cockerels!

May have a whole new flock by Saturday!

x2 Marans x1 Wyandotte x1 Light Sussex x2 ex-batts!

All very eggciting then! (sorry, it's a slow day and I couldn't resist) :D

I really love my ex-batts and highly recommend them. If your incomers have been in a big flock, I'm sure they'll appreciate all the tlc and individual attention (not to mention treats) coming their way.

I've had lots of 6-egg days since getting my scoffalots and the least I've ever had in a day was 2 eggs, so get the omelette-pan ready

I just sent same to the mr! ha ha

We are a bit concerned about introducing them all but as we could have a few new arrivals I think we may be okay as others are still chicks 12 weeks and not sure how many are female from originals!
