JulesL
Hi I'm looking into holidays for next year and we quite fancy going "camping" in Brittany. I will have a 5 and 3 year old so any recommendations? Thanks
Tessa the Duchess
Actually I can recommend somewhere. When the children were little we used to go camping in a place called Pornic, from memory it's about 3/4 hours drive from St. Malo. The campsite was quite basic. Pornic has a street market once a week and there is a large supermarket nearby. The beaches are gorgeous with loads of rockpools, the sea is safe for little ones. There is not much nightlife, but it has lots of nice restaurants down near the harbour. The drive to Pornic is quite scary because you have to cross a really big bridge called Pont de St. Nazaire!! Don't go if you don't like high bridges with no sides Tessa
Otter
I have happy childhood memories of Beg Mei (spelt wrong!!) lovely beaches and a large, well organised, camp site.
Snowy
We went here last year: http://www.farmholidaysinbrittany.co.uk/camping.html The only downside for us was that it rained for a fortnight, but I don't think anyone could be that unlucky again! The owners, Tony and Kay, are so friendly. You can buy their home produced, free range chicken and pork. Kay will even deliver a whole roast chicken and chips to your tent for about 15 euros You order your bread and croissants and they are delivered fresh every morning. The pool is wonderful, Tony will happily give tractor driving lessons. My 3 and 5 year olds adored him and the place - every morning they trotted off after him to feed the pigs and milk the goats and collect the eggs. It is only 2 hours from St Malo. Once there, you don't need to go anywhere else, but most places are about an hours drive away, it is very central (and remote). I would love to go back there
Tina C
Went to Dinard when I was young - don't rmember the campsite but I found this - right next to beach and has a play area. My 7 year old would be very happy here. http://www.camping-port-blanc.com/campsite-bretagne/campsite-dinard.html

Rhapsody
I'll be honest mate, if you are thinking of camping in Northern Europe with two small children, the only thing I'll recommend is a course of therapy.
Goosey Lucy
Rhapsody said I'll be honest mate, if you are thinking of camping in Northern Europe with two small children, the only thing I'll recommend is a course of therapy I think you're spot on there! I can't think of anything worse but then I have never been and never will be a happy camper. I've tried it in Wales and Spain and got cold and wet both times. Seriously though I hope you have a lovely time, Jules
JulesL
Hahahaha! I've just been going through my old posts (looking for one in particular) and came across this! Since first posting this query I've had another baby who is now 14 months old and have finally got round to booking our holiday to Brittany! We go soon and will be going to a campsite in Beg Mei (which someone has recommended in a previous post). Big smiles :) Just hope I can cope with a now 6 year old, 4 year old and 1 year old! At least we are not "under canvas"! J x
the bradley bunch
brittany is my fave place in the world...it is absolutely gorgeous with its combination of sandy beachs and green scenery i worked a summer there a few years back as a children's sports coach on a campsite. i've managed to find a link to it for you to have a goosy: http://www.find-holidays-france.co.uk/park/La-Pointe-St-Gilles-with-Eurocamp.htm benodet in brittany is a great place for families (the beach is very child orientated with bouncy castles, a learner's pool, and trampolines, etc.) plus there's a jetty for older kids to swim out to and hang out on, and there's an excellent watersports centre further down the beach where you can hire all kinds of boats and have all kinds of fun. there's also a go-karting centre and 'tree-top' adventure park close by which we took the camp kids too. if you stay at la pointe st gilles the 'fun station' i worked at do all sorts of fun activities every morning & afternoon for free so the kids will never get bored, and they also offer a babysitting service if you fancy a night out on your own. plus there is a cool pool on site and a small children's club/disco on the nights. they do camping & caraving but the services are the same for everyone. (all this info is based on my memories from a couple of years ago tho so forgive me if anything has changed!). all i know is that on coming home from working in brittany i'd already picked out the house i wanted to retire to and it's definately where i'll be living when i'm an old lady with my cat & all my chickens (and hopefully hubby too if we haven't drove him potty by then!)
