? Is Wilma ill or broody??

Recommended Posts

Hello

Am new to this site but having read so much here I thought you guys would be best at answering my dilema.

Ive Had Wilma for 4 weeks now (along with her 3 sisters) so i reckon she is 23 weeks.

All was well (with the girls laying everyday) until yesterday when Wilma stayed in the nesting area of the cube. She was sitting on the others eggs. I picked her up and put her down next to the food. I was expecting her to be cross but she didnt really complain. I then closed the door so she couldnt return.

Last night i put freezer packs in the nest so when they went back in she nested on them - despite the cold (a suggestion i read here).

Today she has done the same thing. So i am thinking she is broody. BUT her head looks much darker and her comb dull in comparison with her sister so is she ill??

Any sugestions gratefully received

Thanks

Sweetie has been semi-brooding for several days but has always come out of the nest box in order not to miss out on treats.

However, I suspect that she's also been feather-picking the other three as she's the only one with her feathers intact.

In many ways, she's the least likely to be called "Sweetie" as she may be the most difficult of the four.

Crikey, trouble in paradise!

Hi

Sorry not to reply sooner but was having problems navigating the site!

No i dont think she is laying.

I lift Wilma out each day and she seems happy enough to run around with the other girls, eats and drinks, but given the opportunity returns to the nest after about 30 minutes or so.

I guess i will just let her see her 21 days out - hope she can count!

I have used ice packs in the nest for 4 nights but couldnt bring myself to dunk her in a bath of cold water.

So is it ok to leave her to do her own thing n her own time ...or may she sit on her nest forever??

Thanks
