Richard
'we are seeing history in the making' Well yes, we probably are. If it is yet to come it is the future, if it is now it is the present and then it becomes history. Whatever it is that is happening, once it's happened it will be history. Is this the most irritating phrase from the Olympic coverage? Or maybe it is 'it hasn't sunk in yet'. Or ' how does it feel to be an Olympic medallist?'. Erm, how do you think it feels? If you are an honest, lovely, overcome lady windsurfer you say that it makes you ' so (expletive!) happy'. and the stuffy old BBC then issue an apology! It was great to see Bryony Shaw so happy with her bronze medal - much better than the snivelly rowers who got a silver and cried all about it because they wanted a gold. I was really touched this morning watching how happy Bryony Shaw was (and I don't get emotional that often - annoyed; yes, emotional; no). And, for the sake of peace and harmony I won't say anything about track and field and the triple jump! Anyway, back to the topic. What is the phrase that has wound you up the most? Snowy
I agree wholeheartedly Richard! Interviewers tend to have me ranting 'what kind of stupid question is that!' Today I heard a bloke interviewing a woman from, I think it is Madrid (where there has been a major plane crash). He said 'Would you class this as a major emergency?' I was waiting for her to say 'oh no, it's a picnic in the park' What a numpty
Richard
Mornin' everyone The phrase that really winds me up is when someone says 'With all due respect' when you KNOW they have no respect at all for your opinion and they can't understand why you don't agree with them Jackiex Yes, I fully agree. And, with all due respect, I think the moderation on this board needs to be flexible, sensible, intelligent and should consider context. Otherwise the postings will be reduced to such a state of anodyne mediocrity as to be on a par with football in the tedium stakes. Bill hooks, our souls and manure to the lot of you for replacing my posting with 'blooming'. Its not a word I would use in a million years - if you are going to alter my stuff don't use words as ridiculous as 'blooming'. Thats what flowers do - or young maidens. We had it again this morning ... 'after four years how does it feel like to be an Olympic Champion ..' Oh, and it was for yet another sailing gold. How are we doing on the track? stoice
Using 'medal' as a verb seems to be appearing in this olympics. How can can someone 'medal' in something? Annoying (Ooooh love the new colour option for text! Just highlight your copy and select colour - nice one guys)
Looney
I screamed at the television yesterday when I heard someone say something like 'The competition is there to be won' ..... ....well obviously?! I know what they meant and it must be a hard job to keep talking and trying to keep it interesting And when they ask if someone is 'bitterly disappointed' that they didn't get a medal...if they weren't and were just happy to have tried their best will they walk away from the interview feeling like they ought to be bitterly disappointed?
