quickcluck
Hi Guys........ As you know I am very new to the chicken world, and have had my girls only 4 weeks - and loving every minute obviously!! Margo has being laying from day one, not every day, but 3 or 4 times a week. However, this week, there haven't been any at all Is this normal? Do they take a few months to get into the 'swing' of it all. She appears to be absolutely fine in herself. She has a floppy comb but always has, so I assume that's unique to her..... Any worldly words?
Egluntyne
Is she free ranging? She could have taken to laying under a shrub in the garden. Why not have a scout round...you might find a clutch of eggs in an unexpected place. Is she having too many treats? Hard not to spoil them I know, but it does affect their laying. Why not limit her to just pellets in the morning, free ranging later in the day and just one treat a day. It might help.
quickcluck
Thanks egultine.... Alas she they are not free ranging yet, they have to wait another few weeks They are desperate to get out! Will with hold treat for a few days, you guessed right they do get a few as we give them some when we go in the run to handle them so they get used to us..... Hopefully that will do the trick.... I did notice that her always floppy comb is alittle darker on it's frilly bits.... wish me luck!
Donna_0
Hiya This has happened with my Margot and Barbara..they've gone on egg strike for two days..they've been laying six each a week since we got them. I've put it down to the rain..as they're not getting to free range as much as they'd like to. I've had the girls about the same time as you so hopefully this is normal? -Barbara 28/07/08 -Margot 04/08/
alih
I have just got back from holiday to my 4 to find that Iggy, who has not laid for 3 weeks for no apparent reason at all, is back in lay! I had done all the things we are supposed to do - withdrawn treats, limestone flour etc, but she just wasn't for laying, and even stopped crouching. Very mysterious. I had given up on here but loved here anyway, so don't give up hope - chickens do lay, but not all the same! It will come back!
