Is my pekin bantam male or female?

I'm a bit confused by Willow my Amber Star. She is supposed to be 23 weeks old now, but looks much less developed than the other two did when they arrived at 18 weeks She is physically quite big now and bigger than Amber, but her comb looks tiny. This is her at 15 weeks.

 

 

Does she look 15 weeks here, or younger?? I haven't really got a clue what thay look like at that age!

 

This is Willow now at 23 weeks, but that doesn't look quite right to me

 

 

She has only ever layed 1 egg and that was weeks ago. I'm now wondering if it wasn't hers, but it was smaller than the others and pure white so I can't think the others could have layed it.

 

Any ideas here would be great

Im no expert but we've got an amber star and Id hazard a guess shes not more than 20 weeks. My girlie lays mid brown eggs sometimes with little dark brown flecks in them,and Im pretty sure they are brown egg layers, but someone will be along soon who can shed more light on it!

This was the mysterious egg - would be weird for a pepperpot or a gingernut too.

She looks pretty much like my Amber Link who is about 22 weeks now and has laid one softie.

My amber star is HUGE, but she has not laid yet and she is 24 weeks old, crouching, but not a lot else!

Thank you everyone, I feel a bit more reassured now that she is normal for her age. I was getting a bit worried that I might have been doing something wrong Do Amber Stars develop slower than some other breeds like pepperpots and gingernuts??

 

Just one more question, how big are their combs usually when they are fully grown?

my suposed to be a white star but clearly is an amber star as her eggs are brown, has about he same size comb as the black rock and the light sussex who are in lay.

My Amber Star looked just like yours when she was young. This photo doesn't do her justice as her comb is redder than it looks in the pic.

 

 

As for egg colour. I had 2 Gingernuts & 1 Pepperpot who laid various shades of light brown eggs. Then with my new Amber Star I got a whiteish looking exactly like the one in your photo and assumed it was Stella. But explain this....... I now get 2 whitish eggs and 2 brown ones a day. So one of my 2 omlet girls egg colour has changed now that they are 18months old...

I have two amber stars and mine looked like yours when they first arrived at 16wks old.

 

They are now very chunky and have lovely big red combs and wattles.

 

I think yours is possibly a bit younger than 23wks?

 

Do you think its one of the others that laid that white egg and forgot to put the colour on, it has happened with one of mine.

Thanks for the photo Hen Watch, I couldn’t find a picture of a fully grown one anywhere. I think Willow has some serious comb growing to do yet! Your egg colours are more baffling than mine. I am hoping Willow does do white eggs but think I will have to wait until I get 3 eggs in one day.

 

I think Laura&Sean, you might be right. It could have been Pepper who forgot to do the colouring in bit!
