Scramble
Is it necessary to clip the wings? I'm getting Pekin Bantams, and I've thought of them as not a very 'flighty' breed. But should I ask the breeder to clip their wings for me anyway? My dad doesn't want it done if he can help it, one of his reasons 'They look more attractive with un-clipped wings' suggestions appreciated x
alexgirl73
No idea, sorry. But I just did my first wing clipping tonight, as the 3 new girls I got were rather flighty!! And as for the attractivness, well, you only see the clipped feathers when they are doing what they shouldn't be
Nuggywoo
The only reason a wing (either one ) is clipped is to try and stop them flapping away into the middle of next week. How about seeing how they are before you decide? A few feet up is fine - a 30' glide 3' above your head is not ps I thnk 'flighty' refers to their character rather than their aviation skill
jomaxsmith
I got mine done by the breeder when I bought them but when they moult and grow back I won't clip them as I assume they'll be imprinted with 'home' by then. My is way too heavy to get off the ground, anyway! They don't look very nice (especially my who has _both_ wings clipped as no one noticed one was already done when we picked her out) and are quite sharp but I think it's a small price to pay not to have your prized pets disappearing into the sunset!
