CrazyDaizy
Hia everyone Our beloved Daisy died the other day as I have already mentioned on these boards. She was only about 2 and a half (ish) we think, as now we are not sure how old our chickens were when Omlet dropped them off two years ago Yesterday we visited http://www.merrydalepoultry.co.uk/ and were thrilled to buy two gorgeous little chickens who we have called Amber and Snowflake. These chickens are approx 17 weeks old and their "red thing" (whats that called? ) on their heads are just appearing. When we had Cilla and Daisy their "red things" were fully grown so we believe they were a lot older than we were told?? They even started laying eggs straight away when we were told it would be a few weeks So, was Daisy older when she died? Obviously its something we will never find out, and it doesnt matter now, but it pays to double check their ages!
Egluntyne
Sounds possible although it might only have been a matter of weeks. When the comb (red thing ) and wattles start to develop, they do so quite quickly and the hens start to lay fairly soon afterwards.
RubyReckless
Yes, my experience is that the wattle and comb develop dramatically over about 5 or 6 weeks, so an older POL at 22 weeks would look much more mature than a young POL at 17 weeks old.
