Guest
I have been using WS FTP pro for a few years as I purchased it. Can't get it to run on this new laptop, thinking maybe its a vista problem. I should call up their customer care and find out but I'm just too darned busy when they are open to remember. Then when they are closed I need to upload! I downloaded one called coffee cup which is free but if I try and do more than a couple of files, or any folders etc it actually crashes all my sites . One of them is rather key at the moment as we are using it to give information about a funeral. I've used online ones before but having to do one file at a time is too slow for me - I have a couple of sites actually ready to upload in their entirity and I also need to download the whole of my ICT site - which is HUNDREDS of files. Clever bods got any ideas? Fred maybe????

Geoid
I use Cyberduck, really easy to use and its free. Too bad its only for Mac users. For windows try FileZilla.
helenc
I have Ipswitch WS FTP Pro which I paid for and it runs with vista, so it might be worth ringing as you have paid for it

Guest
Erm, what is a ftp? [Only slightly at my lack of knowledge!!] File Transfer Protocol - an FTP program communicates with a server in such a way as to facilitate the exchange of files on your pc to the server and back - for the building and management of websites. unless you design/build websites - you don't need to know! 1. has your web-authoring software not got inbuilt FTP? 2. if not - Filezilla does what it says on the tin - and is free! 3. have you downloaded most recent version of Ipswitch? If you are using the Home 2007 version - you probably need to download the vista-compatible version. Using version 2007? If you own WS_FTP Home 2007 or have an active Service Agreement, you can download the Vista compatible version with your serial number and email address at http://www.myipswitch.com. Guest
Thanks all I'll try firezilla I think. Phil thanks for that - I don't have a service agreement though so I may have to stump up again. I've been pushing updates to the band site most evenings but phoning during the day has just been impossible. I guess the updates aren't over yet either as we have the funeral tomorrow.
