Grovefarm
Hi all, Now i've got a cube as well its time to fill it up with occupants. I would like to get some blue/green egg layers and seem to be having a spot of bother locating recommended suppliers of POL pullets. We normally get our girls from cotswoldchickens.co.uk but I would like something different this time maybe a couple of purebreeds or something. I was looking at the garden hen but at the moment its closed. Does anyone know where I could get some girls from on the berkshire/oxfordshire border. I dont mind travelling up to about an hour for girls but also good reviews of the places I go to are important to me too.
Mrs Frugal
Hi Dale, Have you had a look at the forum recommended breeders list here yet? There might be someone listed who isn't too far from you .
Willow
I understand the owner of the Garden Hen is ill and has had to close as a result.
Baggins
Hi, I got a Pekin bantam and a Belgian D'Uccle from a knowledgable chap near Basingstoke. If you are interested, PM me and I'll dig out his details.
Cinnamon
Hi Dale, Good to hear from you I have recently got 4 new hens from a lovely place in Hook,Hampshire. I went via Basingstoke, & it was about 45 mins from me, so it will be nearer to you I think? I got 2 Columbines, which is a blue laying hybrid (not guaranteed to lay blue eggs though,so a bit hit & miss!), a White Star which lays white eggs & a Welsummer who will lay deepest brown. Not sure if you are not a bit late to get Columbines now as the chicken season is slowing down, but its well worth giving this place a ring..... She also does some good pure breed hens. http://www.hookfarm.net/ Also, if you fancy a drive, there is a place in Beaulie called Worldwide Poultry, which does nice Cream Legbars & lots of other hens, both pure breed & hybrid. My older girls who you met when you visited all come from there
