RubyReckless
I've had a look at the Wiki for suppliers near me in West Yorks. There's not much, really. Storrs are really nice but have very little in this time of year and the Raw Green Cottages site doesn't list any stock (or indeed much at all on their website-in-progress) Do any of you clever souls know anywhere else to try? Edited to say, I'm in Leeds buy can travel an hour in any direction!
mostin
Hi, I'm in Leeds too and struggling to find places. I did find that Raw Green Cottages are just really slow at putting stuff on the website. When I phoned her she had lots of different stock in to what was shown online. I think I saw somewhere in Harrogate in Practical Poultry which is just up the A1 from me, hang on (goes and rummages) Found it, I remember it stuck in my head as I work in Harrogate and keep meaning to go and check it out. Streeton's Poultry 01423 815494 07709412639 It says they do rare breeds and utility, call James to check availability. Let me know if you go and it's a decent place. laurmurf
I'm based in York but we went up the A1 to Catterick - Glencroft Poultry - and he had a great selection of girls of all different sorts that looked really healthy: we got 6 (but now i'm cross we didn't get 7... or 8!). He has a website at http://www.glencroftpoultry.co.uk/ Maybe we should do a Yorkshire get together sometime!

laurmurf
that would be really good, Mostin - you and I joined around the same time, didn't we? I was very impressed you took on a couple of girls as well as your eglu - it was lovely that you wanted to look after them. I'm glad your introduction of your new girls to the old went well too; i've been following your posts to Steve during his troubles. To be honest it's putting me off adding any more girls to our family: I think i'll wait until spring time when I've got more time off work (and I'm planning to treat myself to an eglu!0 I know it's off topic but it would be lovely to meet up with other local chook-fans! What do you say RubyReckless?
mrs chook
Ooh, a yorkshire get together ! I got my two gingernut girlies from Glencroft, just thought I'd let you know...
mostin
Thanks laurmurf, In hindsight it could all have gone horribly wrong with my intros but when I got my two with my eglu they were so very very close I knew that one would die if the other did so I just did it. It all went so well Lets hope Ruby is up for a meet up as well. I am going to have to checkout this Glencroft place as well it would seem. Pinkybijou
I got mine from Avian Pastures, Spaldington near Howden (DN14 7ND, for Sat nav). An old chap breeds chooks as a hobby and I was happy to take a couple from him. Cheap as chips too. HTH Kris
laurmurf
I'll put a note up on the get-togethers page as I know chickenlass is in York too, we're planning to meet up when she gets back from holiday. There must be a few other Yorkshire lasses (or adopted ones) who'd be keen to meet up!
RubyReckless
Thanks, lasses, that's a help! Mostin, I noticed you are a Leeds Omleteer too when I rejoined the board, and thought a meet might be fun. I've 2 pals within a mile who keep chooks now, and I've sold my eglu (as soon as the cube arrives) to my other friend's 9 year old son for his birthday. I'm converting the world one household at a time! I'm a SAHM with 2 kids in school and 1 toddler at home. I don't drive but public transport is fabby and I love a shindig! Egluntyne
I'd ring Rawgreencottages for an update. They usually have plenty of stock and are very pleasant and helpful.
ali-s
I got my Yorkshire girls from Glencroft , they were my holiday souveniers Great place and very helpful Just wish I had known he was willing to deliver them to me as it would have saved me the bother of having 4 chickens on the back seat for the 7 and a half hours journey home
