xChicken04x
Hi all, you may remember at the end of March we got 3 female cream legbar chicks. Well they all started crouching last week. I went to lock the girls up as usual and Pop, Biggles and Mrs Doyle where all roaming around the run, as they are every night with Gemma and Mischief wedged firmly in the door not letting them in . So I went to round them up, Pom looked slightly unwell, hunched up on the floor. I went to give her a cuddle and a quick inspection I couldn't see anything wrong. So I popped her on the floor and gave a little nudge to see if she was walking Ok, which she was. Then she plopped a softie on to the floor, which was promptly eaten by Biggles and Mrs Doyle . The shell was white though . Pure Cream Legbars (which she is) are supposed to lay blue eggs . Is this just because it was a softy or will the 'proper' eggs have white shells too? I don't really have a problem if they aren't blue, but the breeder won't be happy as all three of the girls are from breeding stock, so they won't be able to use their brothers and sisters next year for breeding. They can't be selling non-blue egg laying Cream Legbars. What do you think? I'm really hoping she will lay a proper egg tomorrow . xx
Egluntyne
I wouldn't worry....the coloured pigment is added at the end of the egg forming process, and this didn't happen in this case. When she lays an egg with a firm shell it should be the right colour.
xChicken04x
Hi Egluntine, thank you for your advise. Pom's sister, Biggles has just laid a bright blue egg, so I'm hoping for the same with Pom. I will go and ring the breeder now and let her know, she has a lot riding on these girls! xx
