Can hens and rabbits live together?

Recommended Posts

(Posting in the Rabbit area too!) We have a fenced off area of our garden for the rabbits and will make a new one for hens shortly. However, I've heard that hens and rabbits can live together so wondering whether to just make one big area with both the hen house and rabbit house and plenty of room for them to run around. Both would be shut in for the night in their respective houses. Bit sceptical about the advise I've had though - anyone tried this? Thanks.

Hiya

I started the other post a few weeks before you.

Since we have made a big run for all our rabbits and hens all has been fine. The hens were a little cautious at first and ran off when the bunnies came around but all has settled down now. We have 6 hens and 4 rabbits in the same area but this is a really big run (10mx8m) so plenty of space for them all to play!

Good luck!

We have 10 hens various kinds and ages, 2 ducks and 2 rabbits, they all live happily together in a very large garden, the hens have a cube with the standard run and the rabbits are in ordinary hutches at the moment but will have a new Eglu hutch next week...

They all "free range" all day and the rabbits often stay out all night! there is a 6ft fence all around the garden although I am not convinced it wouldbe fox proof... so far we have been lucky. :? The ducks never go in the duck house at night, they hate it and go mad....they are not young and when we got them they had been used to staying out all night.

I am really looking forward to the low maintainance of the rabbit house!
