Patridge bantam chicken poorly foot?

Well I guess the day had to come sometime. Today was my first NO EGG day since Easter.

I came in from work a bit late so it was dark when I went down to close the chickens up for the night. The outside light came on but it doesn't really illuminate the nesting box much. I had a bit of a feel around. Nothing. I will check tomorrow in the light. It could just be a freak occurence or could this be the shape of eggless dark winter days to come? Oh no.....!

Do you have hybrids or pure breeds?

 

Due to the fact that my pure breeds have given up laying for the Winter, I am getting just 5 or 6 eggs from 19 girls.

I'm pretty sure they are hybrids. I never asked for a special breed, I just chose a red one and a black one.

I'm sure it's just a blip I hope it is anyway!

6 from 19 eek! How long do you think that will go on for?

well our number of eggs have dropped i don't now if its the cold or not but i have introduced some new hens and a cockerel could this be the problem we have twelve warrens the new ones are french marans

It could have unsettled them.

 

Also the shortening days will begin to take its toll.

I'm getting the occasional day off from my three just now too . They've always been really consistent with one a day.

I got 6/13 yesterday and 4/13 today. Three are pure breeds who have stopped laying for the winter and the rest??????

I'm used to Bella not laying, she often has a day off

but Dolce has always laid every day, and it was the coincidence of them both not laying!

Anyway, first thing this morning I had 2 lovely eggs waiting for me.

This evening when I went to lock them up for the night I was shocked for a minute to see no eggs again! Then I remembered I'd already collected them! Phew!

 

From all the comments it sounds like I should become accustomed to the notion of "no egg days", there may be many more to come.....
