Sunny Dayz
Hi All! We took delivery of our Eglu and three hens on 25th June and after a couple of weeks started collecting our delicious eggs daily. We have had the chickens for about 3 1/2 months and during that time all three have been broody with one of the girls having been broody twice! Apart from the drop in productivity, it is a pain trying to keep the broody hen out of the nest box and the others then often don't lay. I was wondering how often a hen will be broody? We certainly won't get 300 eggs a year if it carries on like this so I'm hoping we've just been unlucky? Also, our hens are free to roam the garden all day so have plenty to keep them busy so why would they all go broody? Any advice and thoughts gratefully received! Thank You! - Harriet - Hilda - Hettie
Ain't Nobody Here
Only one of mine has been broody (twice). We bought a puppy cage off Ebay and at the first signs, popped her in it with food and water for 3 days (put in the shed at night). It did the trick. Don't imagine that would actually prevent them becoming broody again though .
