Lisa
Dilly has stopped laying. She would normally lay for about 4 days and then take 1 day off and then start again but about a week ago she stopped all together. I am not overly concerned as she seems healthy otherwise and I cannot see any mites/lice. I have only had the chooks for about 6 weeks so have not yet wormed them although I have already bought some flubenvet ready. I was going to wait till I had had them for about 3 months but should I do this now anyway. The other two are still laying everyday and all three seem very nosey, keen for the odd treat and quite content. Thoughts gratefully received!! Hen Watch
Could be any number of things...... or nothing at all...... Lice/Mites, worms, not drinking enough, shorter days, mini moult, too many treats, laying somewhere else in the garden, egg-eating, gone broody etc etc..... I'm not familiar with Maran Cuirvrées. Is that a hybrid that lays consistently, or a pure breed that will take a laying break in winter months? If you've got Flubenvet already, there's no harm in giving it to them anyway and then sheduling it in every 3/4 months. If she's seems OK she may just start up again. Egluntyne
Is she having too many treats? That can crowd out the sound nutrition provided by the pellets, as can prolonged periods of free ranging and filling up with food she finds for herself. Is she laying somewhere other than in the nesting box?
Lisa
As I have been off sick she has had more time free ranging. However, she is not given huge amounts of treats. I cannot see any mites or worms. She is a hybrid and should lat consistently but she may just be having a rest!? I am back to work on Monday so she will have less time free ranging. I'll just keep an eye on her. Thanks
