Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl

Recommended Posts

I went to see him with my 3 children at the Cheltenham Festival of literature on Sunday and he was really entertaining :D If you have children who like his books and you get a chance to go and see him it will be well worth it.

My ED has read all of the books and loves them, although she says you don't really get your head around them until book 3.

I thought he would be a bit odd and geeky but he was really good, he was a primary school teacher for 15 years and therefore knows his way around the heads of that age group pretty well.

We waited for nearly an hour for ED to get one of her books signed, and not only was he still smiling after that time he also signed a bookmark for YD and had a quick chat with them both, DS couldn't be bothered waiting so went shopping with OH.

We are going to see Jaqueline Wilson this coming Sunday for YD I will be interested to see what she is like because I can't say I have ever warmed to her when I have seen her interviewed. I dread to think how big the queues will be for her book signing.

One thing that annoyed a lot of people on Sunday was the people who had carrier bags and boxes full of books to be signed and you got the feeling that most were not fans but people out to make a profit by selling the signed copies on. There should be a rule of one book per person. Eoin Colfer was a nice guy he should have said no, because it meant that the children who were genuine fans had to wait much longer than needs be.

I saw him with my 3 kids a few years ago at the Hay-on-Wye book festival - he was fantastically entertaining - the kids still quote some of his lines

(he told a story about his boys arguing - and dividing their bedroom - and one of the claiming the bedroom airspace!)

It is nice to know that he doesn't just tot out the same old stories then because he didn't tell us that one.
