eglu borrowing or hiring system

Recommended Posts

Is there one? Having decided I would wait until spring to get mew chickens to add to my 3some I noticed someone offering to lend an eglu for intros and thought "hm, if that's possible, perchance I may be tempted to bring my purchase forward...by 6 months". Does such a thing exist on this wonderful forum? I have sold my eglu to a lovely lady and she is coming for it the day after the cube arrives. She has already waited ages so I don't intend to make her wait more. I only lost Iggy yesterday otherwise wouldn't be contemplating newbies....any answers from the wise?? :D

There are people who lend eglus - am sure there may be someone in your area, either email barbara at omlet or check out peoples signatures. If they do it there is usually a link in the sig.

Edited to add - why not pm Egluntine, I'm sure she rents out her eglu?

Oh Alih, I'm doing exactly the same thing!

The devil makes work for idle cubes. I tried to resist, I really truly did. I got a cube in August and got 6 girls - enough for any sane individual. Then I got an extension for the cube.... then I got another extension for the cube... then i realised what a very small number 6 is when you're counting your chickens.

Ok, I said to myself in a very matter of fact way: When the first 6 are a year old or so, I'll get some more girls to add; then I said i would wait, very sensibly, until I went from working 5 to 3 days per week in February. Well now I've gone and decided that i want more chooks and I want them NOW! It doesn't help at all that the Yorkshire get together is this weekend - at a poultry show.

I've been contacting poultry sellers in the area (ahem... and a bit beyond) to see who has what sort of girls available. If any of them come back with positive answers, then I'm doomed. (my OH already thinks i'm barking and thinks I'm joking about getting more, especially since one of my next intended chicken-fixes is an orpington  ).

By the way, the blessed Egluntine is hiring out one of her eglus to assist with the introductions. I have already suggested that my chook addiction is clearly being enabled by her and I'm saying so to my OH: she's my fixer, so to speak.

(She can be your fixer too, since I happen to know that she's got more than one available, contact her... :shh: )

Oh my Lord! You are all so organised and such angels! Handforth is very close indeed to me but I really so have to talk to OH before heading off to Garden Poultry AGAIN! Thank you so much Egluntine especially for the offer of a room to hire. I may well take you up on it but it may be in the Spring if I can possibly bear to wait that long.....

PS laurmurf - I absolutely love orpingtons too... :D
