Egluntyne
I've shattered any illusion of being a nice Omleteer now haven't I .... Sha x Not at all. I'm sure the Bert option wouldn't be for everyone either. What is suitable and practical in small holding/farm situations might not go down well with neighbours or be safe in a housing estate setting, that is all. Chook n Boo Mum
Hence I put the warning & apology at the beginning of my post. I have to say that I deliberated for ages before actually posting it, as in these days of PC lunacy, I know that the thought of using a gun in any situation is not acceptable to some, & can cause uproar, which obviously I did not intend to do. Even amongst some of my friends, I do not mention the fact the we all (including the children) shoot. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same with the same hobbies & obsessions?! Valkyrie
Wow, I'm glad I was wrong and it was a mouse after all - what a big nose it had though! Dead ringer for my old girls! I have read on this forum that hens eat mice too. Did one of yours dunk it first? When we first got our girls, we did have a woodmouse in the dry stone walling, but I haven't seen hide nor hair of it since, so perhaps the girls frightened it away (bit frightening for tiny mouse with enormous chicken chasing you). I would say Cheyenne did that - she thinks she's a cat.
Valkyrie
Oops a PS Wild Mum, as you are a good shot, can you come and visit and have a bash at our woodpigeon problem?
MedusA
I've completely rat-proofed my run now, but the food stored in the shed was infiltrated, so I had to get a metal dusbin and chain the lid on to keep the food safe too. I'm all for live and let live, but not at my expense! Ratties will have to get their meal elsewhere.
Egluntyne
I keep my hen food in metal bins too, and anchor the lids down with luggage cords.
alison
Seeing as I spent all yesterday sorting out my rata problem, I'd love to have a pop at rats with an air rifle, beats filing Barbie dolls with ketchup and shooting at them, which is what we did as kids!
