mostin
Finally today my darling girilie Dolly layed her 1st eggie, and what an egg, 65gms! . If I hadn't watched her go into the nestbox and come out again I wouldn't have believed it was hers. We got Dolly and Shirley as POL on the same day but Shirley layed her first egg in September so we thought Dolly was going to cross her legs until the spring, despite crouching if you so much as look at her for the past 6 weeks . The product of her labour, so proud, I was expecting it so be alot paler though. The lady herself, she is the only self cleaning chicken I have Expecting treats for a job well done, I am so chuffed as I should have been working today but found out on Friday I had booked today off ages ago but had no idea why. Decided to still take the day off anyway, so glad I did now
quinlan
Well done Dolly, we've got a full box now (or we would of had if we hadn't eaten them!!!) I've been putting shredded paper in the nestbox but might change as I saw Henrietta eating it the other day... Would this be bad for her (its short bits not long) and what do you have in yours? Would this be bad for her (its short bits not long) and what do you have in yours? My local farm shop doesn't sell aubiose or hemcore so I use nedz bedz which is cleaned and chopped straw. It contains tea tree oil which is supposed to deter bedding eaters and be anti viral and anti bacterial. None of my girls seem inclined to eat it and I haven't found any nasties in it. Only £6.50 for a massive bale as well which as I only use it in the nest box will last me ages.
