Chicken Zit !

Recommended Posts

Hi

Hope someone can help, one of our girls has what looks just like a small zit or spot above one eye for the last 2 days.

It is probably about 1mm in diameter.

It dosen't appear to bother her and she is good condition otherwise and still laying.

Has anyone had anything similar ?

Thanks

J

Our chooks get the occasional spot - but more on their bums - they are ingrowing hairs - so I am not sure that is the case if it is above her eye - I agree with Eglutine - warm salty water dabbed on with cotton wool and see how she goes - if it is not bothering her and she is eating and drinking well there doesnt seem to be any real cause for concern.

Hi. I have a 14 week old chick which started out with a tiny spot on her lower eyelid. After several trips to the vet, antibiotics and steroid cream, she still has it  Her health is fine, so I've decided to leave it well alone and see what happens. Messing about with it only seemed to irritate it to be honest, and chickens don't like having salty water wiped over their eyes! I have the scars to prove it  The spot did get quite large (approx 5 mm across!!! ), but has settled down more now. Doesn't bother her in the slightest. Doris has had said spot for a good five weeks, so I assume that if it was anything really nasty, she'd be ill by now. I guess I'm saying, try not to worry too much, but if you are, pop her to the vet

hi all

thanks for all the wise words! I very carefully dabbed pearls eyebrow with a cotton wool bud dipped in warm salt water- she didnt mind at all. I did tho' whatever it is 'oozed', 'popped', whatever you want to call it! Eeeeowwww! Pearl seems fine, and i will repeat the process again in the morning, as the 'zit' looks like it might re-fill! Still, could be worse( or somewhere worse...!)

cheers Jane !eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!
