pistachio
Oh NOOOOO!!!!! We wore gloves and were careful but my daughter borrowed my husbands coat and it reeks!!!!! That's what you get when you think you'll be OK I may be but I'm also at the thought that he'll come back and put it on and Unfortunately due to the nature of his work (he's filming) I don't know when he'll next be back. I've put it on the mega wash cycle with extra liquid and borax but it honks to high heaven. Will it wear off? Do i need to source a replacement? At least it did the trick on my pecky and pecked chickens who are now all together again AT LAST!!! Ideas for coat PLEEEEEZZEE
chelsea
it should wear off eventually, I would wash it several times and get a nice stong fabric conditioner and bung in the wash with it to "freshen it".
quickcluck
Wellllllllllllllllll.. my dog still smells over 2 weeks later so keep on washing in as many smelly things as you can muster!

pistachio
HA HA - Oh dear. Well at least the vague whiff of hope in your messages is encouraging. i will try those suggestions. i don't usually bother with fabric conditioner so i hadn't thought of that and i think i might have some febreze somewhere......... Olly
I seem to recall it took at least two washes ... might be worth letting it dry out in between and then washing again, see if the air sort of takes some of it out. I think I'd be tempted to bin the coat, and invent some sort of accident with a tin of paint or a lighted candle or something!
beach chick
assuming its not raining, hang it outside in the fresh air???

Groovychook
Now if it's not pecky chickens you've got to worry about- it's stinky OH coats!! Best of luck Pistachio!! I'm always wearing things that I shouldn't for doing messy jobs... Had a fair bit of explaining to do in my time!!
sandyhas3chucks
well DIDN'T & hasn't stipped my nasties, think need bumper bits also. I got some on ,y arm, showered, still there, used Urine Off odour neutraliser, still there. Used vinegar... smell gone by evening. I am wqindering if there was something wrong with my UKADEX... I didn't think it smwlt as bad as everyone seemed to think... Hubby got it on his coat (I tested it on a bit of fence, he leaned on it!) washed it on normal half hour & smell gone! Didn't even need to put it out! however 2 gils that slept with smell had awful dihorrea next morning & other 2 didn't, all ate the same then girl with it on laid a softee last night, after perfect morning egg. and not one that is prone to softees! Coincidence
Egluntyne
I think it is like the contents of a Fllitrap. Some find it absolutely horrendous.....others can't see what all the fuss is about. I couldn't abide the smell of a full Flitrap, but didn't find Ukadex all that bad. It wasn't exactly pleasant, rather like the smell of a thousand ashtrays, but that was all. It must depend on the individual's nose.....see the Perfume thread.
Speckle
I hate the smell i feel realy sorry for my chickies when the go in to the nesting box for the night it must reek
pistachio
The coat is bit better after 2 washes and airing. Problem now is that with bumpas and ukadex I THINK they are still a bit pecky. haven't seen them peck but it looks like the areas of non featherage have got bigger and one seems to groom the ukadex off. don't know what I'll do if it doesn't work - they're not pecking while I'm there - don't know who it is if they are doing it
Groovychook
Are you still using the beak rings or did you send off for some bumpa bits? It seems to have done the trick with Hilda & I'm checking Elsie regularly for any plucked bits- none so far!
